For over 30 years, the Department of Pediatric Nursing has actively provided nursing services to children and their families in communities. The main target clients include well children, children with chronic illness especially diabetes mellitus and asthma, as well as their families. The services have been provided through various forms of counseling, health education, training, screening, and health assessment, for example. With the provision of these services the department has also established strong partnership with a wide range of organizations in the communities such as schools, day-care centers, monastery, non-profit foundations working for vulnerable children. Our research activities also demonstrate the academic distinctiveness of these areas and support as evidence for the nursing services. In keeping with its determination to meet the needs of children and families, including those of wellness and illness, the department has always been enthusiastic about change and has actively sought new mechanism and partnerships to pursue its mission. One of our great changes is an initiative for excellence that are built on our unique strengths and potential. At the beginning phase, the Center of Parenting and Child Development and the Center for Chronic Ill Children will be set to serve as the foundation for the department’s reputation.
