The Virtual Academic Conference for Promoting Breastfeeding in 2021 World Breastfeeding Week


On August 15, 2021, the Breastfeeding and Child Health Promoting Center on behalf of the Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University jointly with the Lactation Nurse Association of Thailand hosted the virtual academic conference on the occasion of 2021 World Breastfeeding Week with the topic " Unified Nursing - Protecting Thai Children to be Breastfed".  The conference was conducted and broadcasted via Zoom Meeting and Facebook Live.

Associate Professor Dr.Yajai Sitthimongkol, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University presided over the virtual conference and gave the opening speech, and Associate Professor Kannikar Vichitsukon, President of Lactation Nurse Association of Thailand, delivered a welcome speech to all participants.

The conference consisted of a panel discussion on two main issues. The first one was the topic “Breastfeeding in both Normal and COVID-19 Crisis Circumstances” discussed by Dr. Yupayong Hangchaovanich, M.D.,Vice President Thai Breastfeeding Center Foundation, together with Associate Professor Kannikar Vichitsukon, President of Lactation Nurse Association of Thailand.

Another topic was “Unifying for Protecting Thai Children to be Breastfed in both Normal and COVID-19 Crisis Circumstances” delivered by Dr. Sanga Damapong, Advisor to the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health. Besides, there were Assistant Professor Sudatip Kositamongkol, M.D. from Faculty of Medicine Thammasat University, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Pornnapa Tangsuksan (President of the Breastfeeding and Child Health Promoting Center), Registered Nurse Chayada Samart (Head of Breastfeeding Clinic Siriraj Hospital), Registered Nurse Nattayaporn Kan-Asa from The Early Childhood Development Center of the Faculty of Nursing at Thammasat University, and Registered Nurse Siriwan Meemajam from Cardiac Catheterization Unit Maharaj Nakorn Chiangmai Hospital, joining this discussion panel.

The aim of this academic conference was to publicize and raise awareness among health workers and interested people about the importance of all parts working together to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.
