2022 Academic Conference and Annual General Meeting on "Empowering - Building Knowledge - Towards Breastfeeding in All Levels of Society"


On November 2, 2022, Lactation Nurse Association of Thailand, in cooperation with the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, organized the 2022 Academic Conference and Annual General Meeting on "Empowering - Building Knowledge - Towards Breastfeeding in All Levels of Society". Associate Professor Dr. Yajai Sitthimongkol, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University, presided over the meeting, and Associate Professor Kannikar Vichitsukon, President of Lactation Nurse Association of Thailand, delivered a welcome speech to all participants.

The meeting was held during November 2 – 4, 2022, through Zoom Meetings with the objectives of reviewing the breastfeeding policy into practice for the Sustainable development goals (SDGs) to create collaborative network to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding at all levels and to upskills and reskills on breastfeeding in the next normal world. There were 250 participants including professional nurses and nurse educators involving in breastfeeding.

After the opening ceremony, the “Lactation Nurse the Idol” award ceremony was held to inspire nurses who work in breastfeeding promotion and make valuable contributions to society. There are professional nurses from various hospitals across the country submitting their works and there were 4 winners in Research / Innovation (Nursing Administration and Nursing Services), Nursing Services in Hospitals, Nursing Services in Communities, and there were 11 Consolation Prizes. After that, there was a discussion on “Moving the Breastfeeding Promotion Policy towards Sustainable Development” by Dr. Sanga Damapong, Advisor to the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health., Ms. Titiporn Tuangratananon from Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, and Ms. Supee Sithongthap from Department of Labor Protection and Welfare.

There were also speaking sessions on various interesting topics such as “Growing up and Developing Well – Starting with Age-appropriate Diets” by Dr. Siripatana Siritanaratkul M.D., Pediatrician from St. Louis Hospital, “Herbal Medicines & Breastfeeding” by Dr. Orarik Musikwong, MD., Head of Maternal and Child Health Division, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, “Empowering Breastfeeding Nurses for Happiness and Work Balance” by Mr. Saisampan Panyasiri, Chairman of Sathira Dhammasathan Foundation, and Ms. Suntree Kunanan, Academic and Training at Sathira Dhammasathan Center.

Besides, there was a discussion on the topic “Accessibility of Breastfeeding Promotion Services: Mothers' Perspectives” by Associate Professor Dr. Sasikarn Kala from the Faculty of Nursing. Prince of Songkla University (Moderator), Dr. Walaiporn Bowornkitiwong, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital Mahidol University, mothers who use breastfeeding promotion services, and Pornpawee Poonsawat, Registered Nurse from Charoen Krung Pracharak Hospital.
