The Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, as the Implementation Leader Leading to the Signing of a Cooperation Agreement Between Mahidol University, Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Department of Health, in the Project of a Model Workplace Supporting the Promotion of Reproductive Age Women's Health and Breastfeeding


On May 15, 2024, Mahidol University held a ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the Project of a Model Workplace Supporting the Promotion of Reproductive Age Women's Health and Breastfeeding.

Mrs. Sopa Kieatnircha, Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour, Dr. Ekachai Piensriwatchara, Deputy Director–General, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, Associate Professor Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Vice President for Quality Development and Academic Services, Mahidol University, Associate Professor Dr. Ameporn Ratinthorn, Dean of Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University, joined in signing the memorandum of understanding.

There were executives and representatives from the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, Department of Health, Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, and administrative member of establishments participating in the project including Theppadungporn Coconut Co., Ltd., Western Digital Storage Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Gamma Industries Co., Ltd., Dr. Yupayong Hangchaovanich, Advisor to the Lactation Nurses Association of Thailand, and Associate Professor Kannikar Vichitsukon, President of the Lactation Nurses Association of Thailand, attended the event at the Phatthara Maharajkarun Hall, 5th floor, Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University, Salaya.

On this occasion, Mrs. Sopa Kieatnircha, Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Dr. Ekachai Piensriwatchara, Deputy Director–General, Department of Health presented on “Cooperation of Partner Networks and their Roles in Supporting the Promotion of Reproductive Age Women's Health and Breastfeeding.” Associate Professor Dr. Ameporn Ratinthorn, Dean of Faculty of Nursing, shared on “Background and Guidelines for Driving the Project to Supporting the Promotion of Reproductive Age Women's Health and Breastfeeding.” There was a discussion on “Standards of Thai Women Labour’s Health” by Mrs. Sopa Kieatnircha, Dr. Ekachai Piensriwatchara, Associate Professor Dr. Ameporn Ratinthorn; along with Assistant Professor Dr.Pornnapa Tangsuksan (Head of the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecological Nursing, and President of the Breastfeeding and Child Health Promoting Center, Faculty of Nursing Mahidol University), Mr. Kiattisak Theppadungporn (Executive Director of Theppadungporn Coconut Co., Ltd.) The discussion was moderated by Dr.Sanga Damapong Advisor, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health.

The Project of a Model Workplace Supporting the Promotion of Reproductive Age Women's Health and Breastfeeding was initiated by the vision of Associate Professor Dr. Yajai Sithimongkol (Faculty Consultant of Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University) when serving as the Dean that drove the faculty members to undertake projects to impact on society in order to be leaders in pushing for national policy according to the strategy of Mahidol University, and Associate Professor Dr. Ameporn Ratinthorn, the current Dean of Faculty of Nursing, that continued the implementation until the project happened successfully. Associate Professor Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Vice President for Quality Development and Academic Services, Mahidol University, also gave a support to the Faculty of Nursing towards the success. Assistant Professor Dr.Pornnapa Tangsuksan take part as a project director. Associate Professor Dr.Somsiri Rungamornrat (Associate Dean for Quality Development), Associate Professor Dr. Sudaporn Payakkaraung, Assistant Professor Dr. Sasitara Nuampa, Lecturer Dr. Atchareya Jiramanee, joined the program to study the situation of women's health care and breastfeeding promotion in workplace and apply to creating tools to evaluate workplaces that prioritize women’s health and long-term well-being.

This memorandum of understanding represents a collaboration between the Faculty of Nursing at Mahidol University, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (Ministry of Labour), and the Department of Health (Ministry of Public Health). Its purpose is to establish model workplaces that prioritize women’s health, from pre-pregnancy through the breastfeeding period. The goal is to create certified standards that are accepted by employees and society, ensuring sustainable care for women labours’ health.
