On September 14-15, 2024, the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, organized the first group session of the workshop on "Basic Counselling" for 30 village health volunteers and community leaders from the Bangkok Noi District. The training took place in Room 501 at the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, Bangkok Noi campus. Associate Professor Dr. Yajai Sitthimongkol, Faculty Consultant and Chair of the Administrative Committee of Nursing and Midwifery Clinic of the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, along with the faculty members of Department of Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing joining as speakers.
This workshop was part of the Faculty's initiatives to celebrate the 72nd birthday of His Majesty the King and was supported by the Bangkok Noi District Health Security Fund. The main objectives were to promote knowledge and skills in empathetic listening and basic mental health counselling. It also aimed to establish a support network for providing mental health counselling services to those in need at the Nursing and Midwifery Clinic, located in the Faculty dormitory at Bang Khun Non. This clinic was set up to enhance service accessibility, reduce hospital congestion, and strengthen primary healthcare. These efforts align with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being.
