On September 5-6, 2024, the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, conducted the project "Tang Wai We Care" at Wat Nairong Secondary School, located in Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok. This project aimed to foster intergenerational care and understanding, engaging students and participants in activities that promote well-being and community care across different age groups. Assistant Professor Benjamat Olanratmanee from Department of Pediatric Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, is a Chair of the project. Associate Professor Dr. Yajai Sitthimongkol, Faculty Consultant, Associate Professor Dr. Ameporn Ratinthorn, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, and faculty members of the Department of Pediatric Nursing joining this event.
The project was supported by the Bangkok Noi District Health Security Fund, with the objective of empowering adolescents with the knowledge and skills to care for themselves in order to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The initiative also aimed to foster positive attitudes toward interacting with the elderly, promote intergenerational interaction, raise awareness of NCD prevention behaviors in older adults, and develop adolescent leaders for health care within the community.
Additionally, the project sought to establish a network for referring elderly individuals with special health needs to the Nursing and Midwifery Clinic at the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University (Warm Community Nursing Clinic). This clinic, located at the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University Dormitory, Bang Khun Non, was established to increase access to services and reduce overcrowding in hospitals. It serves as a practical training ground for students, helping them develop expertise, while strengthening the primary healthcare system and providing reliable support to the community. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
