On January 7, 2025, the Faculty of Nursing at Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Siriraj Nurses' Alumni Association under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Nursing Division of Siriraj Hospital, and 26 co-host institutions, organized the international academic conference "Triple Burden of Diseases: Nurse-Led Game Changer to Optimize the Outcomes of Care." The conference is being held from January 7-9, 2025, at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok, aiming to exchange knowledge and strategies for managing the increasing burden of diseases worldwide.
The opening ceremony was honored by Professor Emeritus Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, President of the Mahidol University Council, who emphasized the significance of addressing the triple burden of diseases and the crucial role of nurses in driving change and improving healthcare for the population.
Associate Professor Dr.Ameporn Ratinthorn, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, stated that the objective of this conference is to exchange knowledge and strategies in managing the triple burden of diseases, with a patient- and family-centered approach. The conference also aims to encourage nurses to apply academic knowledge, research findings, and professional services to develop innovations and best practices for patient care. Additionally, it seeks to establish a global network of nursing experts to collectively enhance healthcare services and manage disease burdens more effectively.
This international conference has attracted over 450 participants worldwide, including faculty members, professional nurses, and nursing students from various institutions, both domestic and international. The event features distinguished speakers with expertise in medicine and nursing from multiple countries, such as Dr. Leslie D. Mancuso, President & CEO of Jhpiego, a leading global nonprofit health organization; Professor Dr. Supasit Pannarunothai, Chairman of the Health Equity Monitoring and Research Foundation; Professor Dr. Veerasak Jongsuvivatwong, President of Thaksin University Council; Prof. Patricia Davidson, Vice-Chancellor Fellow at the University of New South Wales, Australia; and Professor Dr. Siri-on Sindhu, President of the Thailand Nursing Association, along with many other esteemed nursing and healthcare experts.
Associate Professor Dr.Ameporn Ratinthorn further highlighted that nurses play a pivotal role in caring for patients with multiple disease burdens and are key to solving these complex health challenges. Nurses are capable of assessing patient conditions, designing appropriate care plans, educating patients and families on self-care, and coordinating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
