Mahidol Nursing Advances Data-Driven, Value-Based Care for NCD Patients

As noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) continue to place a heavy burden on patients, families, and health systems, the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University, serving as The MU-JHU NCD Research Collaborative Center, is moving proactively to advance data-driven and value-based nursing care. The initiative highlights a critical message: nursing data are not just records—they are evidence that can transform how care is planned, delivered, and evaluated.

The Mahidol team, headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Thitipong Tankumpuan, Associate Dean for Research and Director of The MU-JHU NCD Research Collaborative Center, visited Sawanpracharak Hospital in Nakhon Sawan to strengthen collaboration and study the hospital’s information technology system for nursing data management in patients with NCDs using the ICD-10-TM Health Intervention system. The delegation was welcomed by Ms. Pornchan Suwanmontree, Deputy Director of Nursing, and the hospital’s nursing team.

This collaboration reinforces the power of well-managed nursing data to identify patient needs, support workforce planning, improve continuity of care, and demonstrate the value of nursing outcomes. It also aligns with WHO’s call for health systems to move beyond disease-focused services toward integrated, people-centred care. In this direction, Mahidol Nursing is helping shape a future where data become a force for better decisions, better nursing care, and better lives.
