1. General Education Courses

1.1 Social and Humanity Courses 9 credits

MUGE 101 General Education for Human Development 2 (1-2-3)

The meaning, significance, and relation of General Education to other vocational/ specific subjects, the relation between behavior and mentality, critical thinking, the qualifications of ideal graduates, analysis of causes and consequences of events / situations /problems, synthesis of solutions to, precautions against, or improvements in those events / situations to benefit individuals and their community, and the application of knowledge to solve the problems of case studies

MUGE 102 Social Studies for Human Development 3 (2-2-5)

Basic principles and theory in relation to events / situations / major problems of the Thai and global communities, for example, evolution of civilization, important events in historical, political and public administration systems; the economic and health systems, etc., analysis of causes and consequences of events / situations / problems, synthesis of solutions to, precautions against, or improvements in those events / situations to benefit individuals and their community, and the application of knowledge to solve the problems of case studies

NSPC 201 Psychological Development and Human Behavior 2 (2-0-4)

Concepts, theories, related to development and human behaviors. Relation of mind, brain, and behavior. Functions of nervous system as well as environmental factors influencing human development and behaviors. Physical and psychosocial development across life span. The developmental promotion through life span.

ARTH 100 Arts of Thai Language in Communication 3 (2-2-5)

Art of using Thai language and of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and thinking skills for accurate and appropriate communication.

LAEN 103 English Level 1 3 (2-2-5)

English structure, grammar and vocabulary in the context of daily language use, dealing with integration in four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing); reading strategies, sentence writing, listening for the gist, pronunciation and classroom communication.

LAEN 104 English Level 2 3 (2-2-5)

Vocabulary, expressions, grammar, and contextualized social language, essential communicative skills in small groups, simulations in various situations, writing practice at a paragraph level, and reading and listening from various sources

LAEN 105 English Level 3 3 (2-2-5)

Essential strategies for four language skills: reading and listening from various sources, speaking in everyday use and writing at a paragraph level and short essay, including sub-skills i.e., grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary, focusing on English in everyday life and in academic reading and issues that enhance students world knowledge

LAEN 106 English Level 4 3 (2-2-5)

Integrating four English skills by practicing reading news, research articles, commentary, and academic texts, for comprehension and critical thinking, from various sources focusing on the issues that enhance students’ world knowledge; listening to news, lecture, and speech via multimedia and the Internet, making conversations in various situations including speaking in public, giving oral presentations and making simulations; and writing essays in various types using citations and references, also practicing sub-skills such as grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary used in appropriate context

SCPY 159 Elementary Physics for Health Science 3 (3-0-6)

Mechanics of motion and equilibrium, work and energy, elastic properties of matters, fluid mechanics and blood circulatory system, temperature, heat, gas law and respiratory system, waves and wave properties, ears and hearing, lights and visualization, electricity, magnetism, electricity in human body, electronics, atoms, nuclei and nuclear medicine.

SCPY 110 General Physics Laboratory 1 (0-3-1)

Basic Physics experiments relating to Physics curriculums taught to the first year students in each faculty.

SCBI 116 Introductory of Biology 2 (2-0-4)

Chemistry of life and biomolecules, cellular biology, cell energy, genetics and genetic diseases, DNA technology and its medical applications, evolution, human evolution, ecology and pollution problems and biodiversity.

SPGE 103 Body Conditioning 1 (0-2-1)

Meaning and physical fitness components, testing and evaluation; training principles and method for physical fitness development by using sport science application such as to improve muscle mass, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.

SCCH 121 Basic Organic Chemistry 3 (3-0-6)

Molecular structure and classification of organic compounds, reactions of organic compounds, nomenclature and stereochemistry, syntheses and reactions of alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic hydrocarbons, halides, alcohols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid derivatives, amines, carbohydrate, amino acid and lipids.

SCBI 117 Foundation of Life 2 (1.5-1-3.5)

Systemic classification of living organisms; reproduction and development in human and animals; comparative physiology of organ systems in human and animals, emphasizes on diseases and abnormalities, including nervous system, receptor and motor system, digestive system, endocrine system, gas exchange and excretory system, circulatory system and immune system; and basic biology laboratories.

SCCH 119 Chemistry Laboratory 1 (0-3-1)

Experiments of general chemistry and basic organic chemistry include determinations of scientific errors, significant numbers, precision and accuracy, preparation of solution and titration, rate of reaction, chemical equilibria, quantitative analysis using spectroscopy, solubility classification, use of models to study stereochemistry of organic substance, reactions of hydrocarbons, reactions of alcohols and phenols, reactions of aldehydes and ketones, reactions of carboxylic acids and derivatives, reactions of amines.

SCMA 182 Statistics for Health Science 2 (2-0-4)

Concepts and applications of probability and probability distributions in various events; interpretation of statistical values; descriptive statistics; sampling for good representatives of populations and its use in estimation and hypothesis testing.

SCAN 101 Basic Anatomy 3 (2-3-5)

The basic concept of living cells, organs and systems of human body. The relationship of human structures and functions is emphasized. The human skeleton and cadavers are utilized in the laboratory study.

SCPS 202 Basic Physiology 3 (2-3-5)

The course covers basic concepts and principles of cell functions and the functions of different organ systems such as nervous, muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal tract, endocrine and reproductive systems, mechanisms of regulation of organ system integration and adaptations in order to keep the body in a homeostatic state.

SCBC 206 General Biochemistry 3 (3-0-6)

Basic structures and functions of four biomolecules, carbohydrate, lipid, protein and nucleic acid, basic metabolic processes and regulation of metabolic pathways of four biomolecules, flow of genetic information and gene regulation, DNA technology, basic role of biomolecules in normal physiological systems with some applications

SCMI 206 Medical Microbiology and Parasitology 3 (2-2-5)

Introduction to the basic principle of morphology and growth of microorganisms and virus, methods of microbial genes transfer and drug resistant genes transfer, role of natural and pathogenic microorganisms, sterile techniques, pathogenicity of microorganisms and virus, host immune response, medical important parasites, basic laboratory test to detect microorganisms, virus and parasite.

SCPM 202 Basic Pharmacology 3 (3-0-6)

Fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Drugs used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, renal, central nervous system, respiratory, gastrointestinal endocrine system, chemotherapy of infectious diseases and cancer, the use of Thai herbal medicine in primary health care, emphasis on pharmaceutical preparation, drug administration, mechanism of action, therapeutic use , contraindication and precaution, drug interaction and drug toxicity.

NSPC 101 Communication and Health Counseling 2 (1-2-3)

Principle, processes, and factors influencing communication and interpersonal relationship. Development of self awareness. Principle and processes of counseling, basic skills in counseling process, and application of the skills in health counseling in simulated situations.

NSID 213 Epidemiology 1 (1-0-2)

Concepts, principles, scope of epidemiology, distribution, determinant, surveillance, disease investigation, communicable and non-communicable disease prevention and control, epidemiologic study and biostatistics, health indicators, the application and utilization of epidemiology in nursing practice.

NSID 214 Pathophysiology for Nurses 2 (2-0-4)

Dysfunction of nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, circulatory system, respiratory system, urinary system, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary system, pancreas that may cause diseases of a system or multisystems; other abnormalities resulting in disturbance of homeostasis; tumors of body systems.

Principle concepts in nursing, theories, nursing science and science related to nursing, application of nursing science for nursing practice, professional role and health care team, professional standards, nursing and health development for individual family and society.

NSID 205 Introduction to Nursing Information 2 (1-2-3)

Component of information technology, development of nursing information system, hospital information system, information and nursing classification system, implement of information system in nursing administration, practice, education, and research, design and development of instructional media in nursing.

NSID 206 Nursing Process and Health Assessment 3 (2-3-4)

Concept, nursing process, principles and techniques of health assessment in individuals from infant through elderly including history taking, physical examination, psychosocial assessment, interpretation of laboratory findings and health status analysis.

NSID 207 Introduction to Research and Evidence-Based Practice 3 (3-0-6)

Importance of the research and evidence-based nursing, steps in the research process, research designs, research ethics, basic statistics for data analysis and data interpretation, evidence-based nursing process, utilizing the evidence-based nursing in health problems solving.

NSID 208 Breastfeeding 1 (1-0-2)

Concepts, importance, and advantages of breastfeeding. Basic principles of breastfeeding and communication. Practical help for mother and infants to be success in breastfeeding from antenatal through primary childhood. Analyzing and planning for problem solving in breastfeeding. breastfeeding counseling.

NSID 209 Basic Skills in Nursing 4 (2-6-6)

Concepts of fundamental nursing practicum, infectious precaution, personal hygiene, safety environment, therapeutic nursing care, nursing practicum in nursing laboratory ,using nursing process, considering human right, code of nursing profession.

NSID 212 Health Promotion and Disease Prevention 3 (3-0-6)

Concept of health, lifestyle, psychology, nutrition and factors influencing health status and illnesses, health policy, health care services system and nursing system in providing care to the population, health promotion and disease prevention concept, theoretical bases of health behaviors and adaptation of individual across lifespan, strategies for promoting health and disease prevention, integration of local wisdom and alternative care to maintain well-being, roles of nurses in health promotion and disease prevention.

NSPD 303 Children and Adolescent Nursing 3 (3-0-6)

Concept of nursing care for children from birth to adolescents with conditions of acute, critical and chronic illness and their families. Health promotion and risk deduction. Nursing care for newborns, children and adolescents with infections disease, and the problems related to gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, urological, endocrine, nervous, in tegumentary system. Hematologic system and cancer, as well as immobilization, and undergone surgery.

NSMD 303 Adult Nursing I 3 (3-0-6)

The responses of adult patients to acute, critical and chronic health problems receiving medical treatment in respiratory, cardiovascular, hematological, neurological, gastroentero-logical, endocrine, immunological, infection, dermatological, urological systems and cancer. Holistic nursing approaches including health promotion, rehabilitation, prevention, and controlling life- threatening health problems, as well as promoting self care ability.

NSSU 305 Adult Nursing II 4 (4-0-8)

Nursing care of adult patients with health problems in cardiovascular and thoracic system, gastrointestinal system, neurological system, musculoskeletal system, urological and male reproductive system, sensation and perception system, endocrine system and breast, and female reproductive system with surgical treatment in acute, critical, and chronic situation, Using evidence base practices for holistic nursing care in prevention, promotion, rehabilitation, and controlling threatening health problems and enhance self care abilities.

NSFN 301 Gerontological Nursing 2 (2-0-4)

Issues and trend of aging population, theories of aging, physiological, psychosocial and spiritual changes of normal aging, comprehensive geriatric assessment, common health problems, attitudes toward aging and ethical issues in gerontological nursing, health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, rehabilitation, care for the elderly with chronic illness, continuing care and palliative care, coordinative networking, multidisciplinary family, community.

NSOG 305 Maternity-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery I 3 (3-0-6)

This course focuses on trends of maternal and newborn nursing, premarital counseling, family planning, pregnancy and factors influencing the fetus, concepts of maternal-newborn nursing and midwifery as well as infertility. It also includes physio-psychosocial changes of maternal-child in prenatal, intranatal and postnatal and neonatal period. Moreover, the principle of holistic care for mothers-newborns, alternative medicine, breastfeeding and the promotion of mothers, newborns and family relationships are integrated.

NSID 325 Disaster Nursing and Emergency 2 (2-0-4)

Disaster Plan Disaster and Emergency management. Analysis of problems and situations of care at the scene. Initial and life-threatening care. Communication and cooperation for transferring to definite care. Acute posttraumatic stress disorders care of the victim family and provider.

NSID 326 Ethics and Laws in Nursing Profession 2 (2-0-4)

Concepts of ethics and Morality of the profession of nursing. Concepts of laws and laws regarding the profession of nursing. Rights and responsibility of nurses, rights of patients. Ethical and law issues in the profession of nursing.

NSID 327 Nursing Management 2 (2-0-4)

Concepts and principles in nursing management, planning, establishing nursing organization, nursing care delivery system, assignment, personnel management, staffing, directing, empowerment, nursing quality control.

NSID 328 Seminar in Issues and Trends in Nursing Profession 2 (2-0-4)

Seminar in issues and trends affecting nursing profession in education, service, administration and research; changing situations in society, economic, politic, technology and health care system, self improvement and development in nursing professional, evidence base utilization.

NSPC 301 Psychiatric Nursing 3 (3-0-6)

Mental health promotion. Mental health problem and psychiatric illnesses prevention. Principle of psychiatric nursing .Psychiatric interventions. Holistic nursing care for individuals with psychiatric illnesses across lifespan in both acute and chronic phases in hospital and continuing care in community.

NSPN 302 Community Health Nursing 3 (3-0-6)

Care of community, community health nursing process, public health strategies, continuity of care, care of person in the family, aggregate group and community.

NSOG 401 Maternity-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery II 3 (3-0-6)

The nursing care for mothers and newborns at risk during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Abnormal and obstetrical operating deliveries, and obstetrical medication management. Utilization of holistic nursing care to promote, recover, prevent and control health problems. Promotion of the relationships among mothers, newborns and the families.

NSPN 404 Primary Medical Care 1 (1-0-2)

Role and functions of nurses in health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral of difficult clients based on nursing profession, laws and regulations.

NSID 281 Basic Nursing Skills Practicum 1 (0-4-1)

Nursing practicum in health care settings, responding to basic human needs, considering individuals’ right, code of nursing profession.

NSPD 382 Children and Adolescent Nursing Practicum 3 (0-12-3)

Practicing holistic family-centered care for infants, children, and adolescents with acute and chronic illnesses including gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, hematologic and malignancy, urologic, endocrine, neurologic, and dermatologic disorders as well as for pediatric patients with immobilization. Utilizing nursing process in nursing practice and enhancing individuals’ and family’s ability in self-care and continuing care with concerns of patient’s rights and codes of professional conduct.

NSMD 383 Adult and Elderly Nursing Practicum I 3 (0-12-3)

Nursing practice in adult and elderly clients with health problems related to respiratory system, cardiovascular system, hematology, blood circulation, neurological system, gastrointestinal system, endocrine, immunology, infection, skin, urinary tract system, and cancer. Care for clients at acute, critical, and chronic phases. Integration of theories and evidence-based concepts in holistic nursing. Incorporation of care, curative treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation. Congruence with changes of technology, treatments, and health care system. Consideration of patients’ rights and codes of ethics in nursing, and differences in social backgrounds, religions, and culture of individuals. Conduct of appropriate discharge planning and promote self care abilities and family support.

NSSU 383 Adult and Elderly Nursing Practicum II 3 (0-12-3)

Holistics nursing practice for adults and elders with health problems in cardiothoracic and vascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, musculoskeletal, urological and reproductive system, eye ear nose throat, thyroid and breast with surgical treatment during acute, critical and chronic phase, hasis on evidence based practice, health promotion, prevention, control thealth threaten problems, and rehabilitation in order to enhance self care abilities. concerning of the person's rights and codes of prefessional conduct.

NSOG 384 Maternity-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery Practicum I 3 (0-12-3)

This course is based on nursing practice by using holistic care for mothers and newborns during prenatal, intranatal and postnatal period and using nursing processes integrating alternative medicine in nursing care. It includes discharge planning for continuing care in order to promote ability in self-care and relationship between maternal-newborn and family. Concern of the person’s rights and the ethics in nursing profession are integrated all the nursing practice.

NSPN 484 Community Health Nursing Practicum 3 (0-12-3)

Community health assessment, community diagnosis, planning and implementation, continuing care in the community, community participation, resources utilization, integration of local wisdom, evaluation of family and community care.

NSPN 485 Primary Medical Care Practicum 2 (0-8-2)

Application of primary care knowledge and related sciences to practice. History talking, physical examination and interpretation, laboratory interpretation, health screening, diagnosis, treatment, and writing report. Provision of appropriate advise and referral.

NSPC 482 Psychiatric Nursing Practicum 2 (0-8-2)

Holistic Nursing care practicum for individuals with psychiatric illnesses across lifespan. The use of nursing process in accord with psychiatric treatment and the use of discharge planning by employing family participation. Patients’ rights and code of ethics are emphasized.

NSOG 481 Maternity-Newborn Nursing and Midwifery Practicum II 3 (0-12-3)

This course focuses on the practice of holistic nursing care, using nursing process integrated with local wisdom, for mothers and newborns at risk during prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. It includes the attendance during labor, conduction of normal deliveries, and assistance in normal and abnormal deliveries. The discharge plan conduction to provide continuing care to promote self-care abilities and relationships among mothers, newborns and the families are also emphasized. The patients’ rights and Codes of ethics for nurses provide guidance for practice in this course.

NSID 482 Nursing Management Practicum 2 (0-8-2)

Nursing management practicum, nursing care delivery system, nursing team leading, planning, assignment, coordinating, supervising, evaluation, decision making in nursing.

NSID 488 Practicum for Nursing Skills 2 (0-8-2)

Clinical practice in an interested nursing area. Reinforcing nursing skills, applying nursing process in the holistic nursing practice, coordinating with team nursing and decision making as a professional nurse with respect to patient right and professional ethics.

Meanings, types, components and functions of culture; forms of cultural learning; social norms and regulation; cross-cultural interaction; globalization and local cultures

SHSS 107 Society and Health 2 (2-0-4)

The social meanings of health. Health as aggregated outcomes of social system. Relationshipsbetween gender, class, culture and health. Causal pathways between social structure and social relations and health conditions of individuals and community. Social inequality and social disintegration and health problems. Egalitarian society and health. Public policy and health.

SHSS 112 Life Skill for Modern Living 2 (2-0-4)

Living in the modern age; Impacts of modern life on physical, social and mental health; sufferings (Dukkha) of people of the modern age (consumerism, environmental threats, stress, loneliness, alienation, material dependency, aggressiveness, confusion, bewilderment, lack of life goal); causes (Samudaya) of life crisis in the modern age; principles (Nirodha) of how to have a peaceful and happy living in the modern society; Skills and techniques (Magga) for pursuing a balanced and happy life amid rapid societal changes such as meditation, mindful exercise techniques (Yoga, Ta-chi), building a goodwill society; skills of how to live with other people with harmony and tolerance of differences; ability to choose and consume information; being responsible and engaged members of society with public mind.

SHSS 135 Health Economics 2 (2-0-4)

Health problem in economic theory, concepts and economic mechanisms applying to health problem the demand and supply of health service characteristics of health service types of market economic development and health care system, international trade and multinational company in health care industry, public health budgeting health assurance cost and evaluation of health care project.

SHHU 107 Medical Ethics 2 (2-0-4)

Meaning of medical ethics and relation between ethics and medicine, features of ethical reasons; analysis of ethical problems relating to medicine and nursing such as role, duty and responsibility, impersonal attitude of physicians and nurses; physician-patient relationship, nurse-patient relationship, human experimentation, abortion, reproductive technologies, organ transplantation, genetic control, strikes, and other ethical problems concerning medical and public health personnel.

SHHU 108 Human Relations and Self-Development 2 (2-0-4)

Principles and methods of cultivating human relations and self-development according to Buddhist perspective. For example, methods to develop a good relationship among colleagues and members in society, the art of teamwork, the administration according to the Buddhist teachings, the cultivation of right view and working ethos, Buddhist meditation, and art of public speaking.

SHHU 117 Women and Development 2 (2-0-4)

The role of women in the political, economic, and social development. The influence of the political, economic, and social factors on the role of women. The differences between women in urban and rural societies in Thailand. The development of the quality of life for women.

SPGE 101 Aerobics for Health 2 (2-0-4)

Aerobics exercise significance, benefits and basic principles of aerobic dance training. Skills of aerobic dance movements, safety, Aerobic activities such as hydro aerobics, aerobic boxing with music.

SPGE 102 Yoga for Health 2 (2-0-4)

History, meaning, training locations and equipment, and benefits of Yoga, Body preparation, joint and muscle stretching, Techniques of muscle contraction and relaxation. Practice of Asana (body position/posture), breathing control, Pranayama, deep relaxation and Yoga training safety.

SPGE 109 Swimming 2 (2-0-4)

Significance, benefits , safety , rules and regulations, uniforms. Basic skill such as breathing, floating, leg movements. Styles of swimming such as Freestyle, Back stroke and Breast stroke.

SPGE 112 Social Dance 2 (2-0-4)

Benefits, rules and regulations, safety and dressing. Basic skill of waltz, Cuban-rumba and cha cha -cha.

SPGE 114 Badminton 2 (2-0-4)

Benefits, regulations, uniforms and safety. Basic skills, such as, foot-work, forehand, backhand, service, drive, drop shot and smash. Team tactics and strategies in both single and doubles.
