Master of Nursing Science Program in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing
Program Philosophy
The programme aims to produce master’s graduates of integrity and professional ethics who possess the knowledge and skills to: promote mental health; prevent and reduce risks of mental disorders; perform comprehensive advanced health assessment to screen at-risk populations; make sound clinical judgments and decisions; care for at-risk individuals and those with mental illness in community settings; manage mental health problems in both routine and disaster contexts; deliver individual and group psychological therapies and psychosocial interventions; and support recovery through continuous systems and models of care. Graduates integrate relevant theories and principles of psychiatric and mental health nursing with sensitivity to cultural diversity, ethics, professional conduct, and evolving national and global health trends. They are able to generate research and nursing innovations responsive to societal needs, improve the quality of psychiatric and mental health nursing services, act responsibly toward self and society, collaborate effectively, and provide professional leadership for positive change.
Program Objectives of the 2022
Upon completion of the programme, graduates will demonstrate:
- Academic and professional ethics in psychiatric and mental health nursing.
- The ability to explain knowledge/principles in psychiatric and mental health nursing and to deliver promotion and prevention using evidence-based practice appropriately.
- The ability to analyse, synthesise, critique, and solve problems in psychiatric and mental health nursing; propose ideas; and produce innovations, new knowledge, scholarly work, and research using sound nursing research processes.
- Responsibility to self and society, professional leadership, and effective interprofessional and health-network collaboration.
- The ability to analyse, interpret, and manage quantitative/statistical information for psychiatric and mental health nursing; effective communication with academic, professional, and community audiences; and appropriate use of information technology.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
PLO1 Disseminate rigorous research on mental health promotion and nursing responses for the selected population.
PLO2 Implement holistic, evidence-based care for mental health problems and psychiatric illness within legal, ethical, and professional standards.
PLO3 Develop innovations in psychiatric and mental health nursing leveraging health information technologies to improve outcomes and system efficiency.
PLO4 Demonstrate leadership in interprofessional teamwork and communicate effectively with service users and relevant stakeholders.
